1. Who runs Stride
Proposed operator: Dylan Titley, United Kingdom. The final legal service operator and data controller must be confirmed before public registration opens. This draft uses “Stride”, “we” and “us” for that proposed service.
Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL — TO BE ADDED BEFORE PUBLIC LAUNCH]
The public contact route is not active yet. These Terms are a review draft, not final terms that new users are being asked to accept.
2. What Stride provides
Stride helps you organise your own studying: subjects, topics, study sessions, plans, deadlines, exam-question marks, courses and personal rewards. It is free at launch, with no paid plans, advertising or marketing emails.
It is an organisation tool, not an exam board or a source of official grades. Scores and progress depend on the information you enter. We cannot promise a particular exam result or learning outcome.
3. Who can use it
Stride’s intended minimum age is 13. Do not create an account if you are younger. If you are 13–17, you may find it helpful to read these Terms and the Privacy Policy with a parent, guardian or another trusted adult.
Any age or parental-permission requirements that apply under your local law still apply. This wording does not make a parent responsible for a contract they have not agreed to.
Before launch: confirm the age-assurance approach and how these Terms apply to younger users. The current test signup does not yet check age or record acceptance of a final Terms version.
4. Your account
The first shared release is intended for friends using email addresses approved by the project owner. Approval controls new registration; it is separate from account closure and does not publish your address to other users.
Before the friends trial: activate and check the approved-email registration rule. It is prepared in code but not yet confirmed active in the live project.
Use an email address you control, complete email verification and keep your password and verification/reset links private. Do not use someone else’s account or share access to your account.
You can request a password-reset email from the sign-in page. Tell us promptly if you think someone has accessed your account without permission. We will handle concerns through the contact route above once it is active.
Signing out affects the current browser’s session. It does not automatically sign out other devices or erase saved browser copies. The Privacy Policy explains device storage.
5. Your records and other people’s information
You keep the rights you hold in your study records. You give us permission to store, copy, transmit and display those records only as needed to provide Stride, including through the service providers described in the Privacy Policy.
This permission is not a right to publish your notes, sell them or use them for advertising. When records are deleted, any remaining processing is limited to the retention and legal purposes explained in the Privacy Policy.
Only add material you have the right to use. Keep passwords, access tokens, payment details and sensitive information about yourself or other people out of notes and links. Use topics and study reflections rather than identifying private details about real people.
6. Using Stride fairly
Do not attempt to access another person’s records, bypass authentication, upload malicious code, disrupt the service, or use Stride unlawfully. Report a suspected security problem privately through our contact route; do not access other users’ data to demonstrate it.
These rules protect a private study space. They do not restrict your right to raise a genuine complaint or exercise your legal rights.
7. XP, achievements and personal rewards
Each overall and subject level currently represents 100 XP. Overall XP includes recorded study minutes and the daily and weekly bonuses shown in Rewards. Subject XP is based on recorded study minutes for that subject.
XP, levels, charts and achievements are calculated from your saved records. Removing records or changing your weekly goal can recalculate the result. Personal reward targets can be edited or deleted; deleting a reward does not remove study XP.
XP has no cash value and is not a qualification. Personal rewards are reminders you set for yourself; Stride does not supply or pay for them. Missing a study day does not itself remove XP.
8. Saving, backups and availability
Study records are saved to your signed-in account. A browser copy helps protect unsynced changes. Check the save status: an offline or conflict message means you should keep a backup before leaving. Conflicting versions are not automatically merged.
Export backup downloads your study records to your device. Importing a backup replaces the study records in the account after confirmation. Protect exported files because they can contain private notes.
We aim to operate Stride with reasonable care, but maintenance, connection problems and provider outages can interrupt access. A backup is a useful precaution; it does not remove any responsibility we have under law.
9. Courses, certificates and external links
Links to courses, MOOCs and certificates take you to another provider. That provider controls its content, availability, account rules and privacy practices. Adding a link does not mean Stride endorses the provider or guarantees a certificate or result.
10. Leaving, suspension and service changes
You can stop using Stride at any time. Export your records if you want a copy, and use the contact route to request account closure or deletion once it is active. Removing a study entry is different from deleting an account.
We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address unauthorised access, serious misuse, a security risk or a legal requirement. Where lawful and practicable, we will explain the reason and offer a way to question the decision. We will give a reasonable opportunity to fix a problem when it is safe to do so.
If we plan to close the service or make a material change that affects access to your records, we will give reasonable notice and an opportunity to export where practicable. Urgent security or legal action may require a shorter notice period.
The proposed inactive-account process is described in the draft retention section; it is not currently an automatic feature.
11. Your legal rights
These Terms do not exclude or restrict liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit. They do not take away any mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.
12. Changes and questions
We will identify a new version and date when these Terms change. Material changes will be explained before they apply where practicable, with any further agreement required by law. Changes will not retrospectively take away rights you already have.
